Conventionally Hack and Slash games are games where you quite literally hack and slash away at your enemies using swords and other such melee weapons. Today that definition has been expanded a bit to include titles like God of War, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden and in some cases, certain Prince of Persia games as well. Keeping that in mind we’ll take a look at hack and slash games releasing this year.

Darksiders

The apocalypse has finally arrived destroying pretty much everything in its path. Now it’s up to War, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse to find out who caused this premature annihilation of the world. Borrowing certain gameplay elements from God of War, Devil May Cry and the Grand Theft Auto series, Darksiders looks like an enjoyable, bloody romp.

Brutal Legend

Eddie Riggs is your run-of-the mill roadie who finds himself trapped in an alternate heavy metal dimension where humans beings have been enslaved by demons. Being the metal head that he is, he must now use the power of rock and roll to free his brothers from this terrible oppression.

Dragon Age Origins

A spiritual successor of sorts to Baldur’s Gate, Dragon Age Origins is a conventional hack and slash role playing game that deals with clichéd yet enjoyable mythical stuff. Choose from one of three classes as you strive to liberate the land from evil and discover your “Origins” in the process.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is basically a remake of Ninja Gaiden 2 for the PS3 with a generous amount of exclusive content thrown in like newer enemies, newer playable characters, a co-operative mode and lots more. On the flip side the gore and violence has been toned down a bit as opposed to the Xbox360 version of the game that was a total bloodbath.
