Leaked Sony Readers are now Official

Sony slashes e-book pricing and launches Reader Pocket as well as Reader Touch eBook Readers

Recently, details about Sony's two new Readers had cropped over the web. Sony has officially announced the launch of those new Readers PRS-300 and PRS-600. These two models, Reader Pocket Edition (PRS-300) and Reader Touch Edition, are expected to hit stores at the end of this month. The new PRS-300 Reader Pocket Edition will be offered at price of $199 (Rs. 9,600 approx.) while PRS-600 Reader Touch Edition will be offered at a price of $299 (Rs. 14,400 approx.).
Along with this, Sony has also announced to drop its e-book pricing of new releases and best sellers to $9.99 (Rs. 480 approx.) down from $11.99 (Rs. 575 approx.). In order to keep up with Amazon's Kindle and Kindle DX models, Sony has refreshed their eBook Reader lineup.

Sony Reader Pocket Edition (PRS-300) has 5-inch E-ink e-paper display and has 440MB usable internal memory. This Reader features three adjustable font sizes and 8-levels of gray scale. Below are the official specifications of the Reader Pocket Edition which are same as in the leaked manual.


Reader Pocket Edition (PRS-300):

Display: 5-inch E-ink electronic paper display
Files supported: Adobe PDF (with reflow capability), Microsoft Word, BBeB, EPUB
Resolution: 800 x 600 pixels
Gray scale: 8-levels gray scale
Storage: 440MB of usable internal memory stores about 350 standard eBooks
Font sizes: Three adjustable font sizes
Battery: Sealed-in battery provides up to two weeks of reading on a single battery charge
Color: blue, rose, and silver
Accessories: Protective neoprene sleeve and USB cable included

While Reader Touch Edition sports 6-inch touchscreen panel which can be used for navigation with finger touch or stylus that's included in the bundle. Users can enjoy choosing custom font size from the five adjustable font sizes. Packed Stylus with Reader Touch can be put to best use for taking notes that can be exported and printed. This Reader also has built-in Oxford American English Dictionary just like the Kindle does. Check the technical details of PRS-600 which are same as leaked earlier.

Display: 6-inch Touch-screen panel (navigate with your finger or the included stylus)
Files supported: Adobe PDF (with reflow capability), Microsoft Word, BBeB, EPUB
Resolution: 800 x 600 pixels
Gray Scale: 8-levels gray scale
Notes: Take handwritten notes with the stylus pen or type with the virtual keyboard, Notes can be exported and printed out
Onboard Oxford American English Dictionary
Font Sizes: Five adjustable font sizes
Storage: 440MB of usable internal memory stores about 350 standard eBooks
Storage expansion: Expansion slots for both Memory Stick PRO Duo and SD cards
Battery life: Sealed-in battery provides up to two weeks of reading on a single battery charge
Color: red, black, and silver
Accessories: Protective case and USB cable included

Apparently, both the new Readers don't have a wireless option. Also, the eBook Library software is updated to 3.0 version including support for PCs and Macs. Sony has recently got over a million free public domain books coming right from Google's bank. So, users already have loads of public domain titles to choose from or they can buy the titles of their choice from Sony's eBook Store.
